I have a Mossberg 500 with the 20" barrel and 7 round mag tube. Currently I have a green laser rifle sight with pressure switch mounted on it. I was thinking of putting a fixed front and rear sight on it instead but so far unable to find any that might work. Looked at the Halo 2 Deluxe heatshield with ghost sights but didn't like the reviews. Also looked at the UTG Mossberg 12ga Shotgun Tactical Front Sight but because of where the lug and screw for the mag tube are located, almost at the muzzle, that's out. Anyone have any suggestions or should I just stay with the laser.

Williams makes a rear sight called ace in the hole it is a combination ghost ring and scope rail and sometimes comes with a front sight as well . I love the Mossberg 500/590 but sometimes they can be difficult to mod .

Thanks for your info but I have no issues with a rear sight it's the front sights that aren't going to work. I might not worry about and just stick with my laser which is mounted on top with a picatinny rail.

Not sure what you're looking for here,  but take a look at the "Trac-Lok"  (sp?) shotgun sights from Wilson Combat / Scattergun Technologies.   They're made for Remingtons, but should work on Mossys as well, especially if you're only interested in the front sight.   The rear sight might be a challenge due to the Mossy's safety location.   They're available also from Brownell's. Midway USA, etc.   The front sight would be silver soldered in place and doesn't involve any barrel bands or interfere with mag tube clamps, etc.    Also look at Vang Comp's sights.   http://www.vangcomp.com   None of these may work for you but doesn't hurt to look .

Thanks I'll look at them. As far as the safety interfering with a rear sight my Mossy has a picatinny rail that I was planning on using for a rear sight.

I'm really fond of the XS sights for shotgun use.  Not sure if they would fit into what you are trying to do, but you might check them out.

Thanks. I did check out the XS sights but they wont work either. The big problem is that the barrel lug for the mag tube, 7 round, is out so far forward that there's really no place to attach a sight without some gunsmithing work.

Not that anyone might care but I've made a decision on sights. Looked at the SX Big Dot Tritium Yellow and although it might be great for target/trap shooting I think that the green laser rifle sight I have mounted is the best way for me to go. It works great even in daylight, will allow target shooting plus I don't have to shoulder my Mossy. All I have to do is put the dot on an object and pull the trigger even if shooting from the hip. Just thought Id do an update. Plus I think it would be pretty intimidating for a person to see a green dot on their chest.
