I picked this up at a gun show last winter. It isnt something I’d typically buy because someone parkerized it, wrong stocks, and it had a rifled slug barrel on. A great deer gun sure but really a Frankengun.
Upon closer inspection I noticed the lowest serial number I personally have ever seen on an 870- 11xx. With a serial number that low I figure it had to be a first or second month production at the very latest.
So I went back and forth with the guy and struck a deal, took it home and threw it in the closet till I got motivated. So I raided my parts bin, got a period correct stock and forearm, placed an order to JD, and after a lot of elbow grease this forgotten 69 year old got a new lease on life.
Its funny this is the 2nd beat up 1950 Ive ran across and purchased.

Beautiful work. I see you put a Flextab kit in there too. Always loving the wood furniture. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks Tim! Yes it has the full flextab conversion with a Volquartsen extractor, 2 shot extension, SBE follower (thanks JD!), police sear spring, 1100 carrier spring, and 18.5” Remington Parkerized barrel.

They are a fun platform to build and create different variations. It cycles beautifully! Its really something that needs to be experienced. You just don’t find it in todays box store sale priced specials.
