My mom has a 45/70 Springfield trapdoor rifle. We have shot it several times 30 years ago .not since ,now she is in nursing home my nephew is new owner of it. It has bayonet still missing cleaning rod and metal end cap for muzzle end of stock. It did shoot well .has been in same family since brought home by relative many many years ago. 1873 Springfield trapdoor with 1500 yd sight .

Neat! While fossil hunting north of here I found a few slugs from what seemed to be from 1873's.
You see I found them not too far from the Pine Ridge Res. and the ranch I found the bullets on have been in that family since the 1880's. Who knows what those bullets saw. But I have a pretty good imagination so...

I do own a new england handi rifle in 45/70 have never used for hunting.
Did use it when butchering cow bullet hit in forehead went through head and we found it about
5 vertabes down in neck area. Needless to say the cow hit the ground like sack of taters.
Clean kill
Iowa is think about or already have passed law to use straight wall rifle ammo to hunt deer.
It shoots dead on at 100 yards. Have never adjusted sights since new .did shoot a piece of note book paper at 100 yards in off hand position.
