I bought a 20 gauge shotgun from AI&P about three years ago and have only fired about seven hundred rounds through it, and almost all of those were #1 and #3 buck, although I did shoot a few boxes of #8 shot rounds. The gun is fitted with an I/C choke and this coming summer I'm thinking about doing a lot more shooting with this gun using 7/8 oz. Rio slug ammo. My question is; since this gun has a smooth barrel will slugs do any damage to the barrel and/or choke tube? Probably sounds like an amateur question, but if I don't ask I'll never know for sure.

                                         Thanks,   Gary

You are fine with slugs.   I have not used the RIO slugs but have used the 00 buck and that is good.   I am guessing that brand will be fine.  No need to spend big money on range ammo in a shotgun as most all the common brands do the job.

As for shooting slugs from a smooth bore, that is what those slugs are made for and no way to damage the barrel.  Have fun.
