Being I ain't a Rocket Surgeon that was a hard read for me.  I have always used 00 and I know little to nothing about platted, buffered and all of that.   The gelatin test are beneficial if I ever get attacked by a bowl of Jello I guess.  I know, I just have to be a wise ass sometimes.

Even with my limited brain power the test was comprehensive enough to make one think about the load they use for defense.   I also like the fact it was done scientifically with data to back it up and not a spiel of opinion. that so many of these are.   This one give the data.

I want to live the rest of my life without killing anything but if it is me or him I want it to him.  The right load can make the difference.  However, inside a house the wadding is going to be in the guys chest so all of this in mute.   For duty ammo and for those of us that realize we may have to be outside this study give some info to consider.

#1 has been my preferred round for buckshot for years. My testing was a little different, if it doesn't leave coyote size holes at my normal hunting distances, its a winner.

I have a bunch of Remington '0' buck I got at Sportsman's Guide when they ran a 'blue light special' ; $2.99 for 125 rounds in 5 round boxes, inside a .30 cal can. (Actually they were W. German MG3 cans) There were 9 left when I got to the counter, and 1 guy behind me. I took 5, left him 4. I gave my Dad a can when he was up visiting from Texas, and my older son has shot up about 1/2 a can, so I think with that and the various 00B and slugs I've acquired over the years, I'm well set to repel boarders.

My default for a long time has been #4 Buck for indoors, 00 Buck for outdoors, and grab a slug for special occasions.
