ADMIN:   We all know that Dick's Sporting Goods are dicks and none of us will give them any business.   Here they are bragging about it.  In the story he says they should the kid a shotgun?  So, blame the AR?  As for Wal-Mart, I would still like to know what is ammo for short barreled rifles?   This is second most ignorant and stupid thing I have read about guns.  First was in a story about a thief that used a 40mm Glock.   Anyway if you still buy things at Dicks Sporting Goods you are also a dick.   Here is the story:

The CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods said the company destroyed more than $5 million worth of assault-style rifles following its decision to stop selling the weapons amid pressure on retailers from gun control groups.

Ed Stack told CBS News during an interview that aired Sunday that the millions of dollars worth of inventory was turned into scrap metal.

"I said, 'You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,'" he said.

It was not clear how much destroying the weapons cost the sporting goods giant.

Stack announced the Coraopolis, Pennsylvania-based chain would stop selling assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines following the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The shooter killed 17 students and school staff with a weapon purchased from a Dick's location.

"We found out that we sold this kid a shotgun," Stack said. "That's when I said, 'We're done.'"

It also revamped its firearm sales policy to require a minimum age of 21 for gun purchases. Stack said the moves resulted in a loss of $250 million in sales. The financial loss didn't affect the company's stock price, which climbed in the year after Parkland.

Earlier this year, Dick's stopped selling guns and hunting rifles at 125 locations after a 10-store test showed positive results.

Others have followed suit. Walmart announced last month that it would discontinue handgun sales in Alaska and the sale of short-barrel rifle and handgun ammunition nationwide.

More than 120,000 people signed a Walmart employee petition protesting the company's firearms sales since 22 people were killed at an El Paso, Texas location in August.

Dick’s is a publicly traded company (DKS). As such, the CEO Mr. Stack, that just destroyed $5 million worth of rifles seems to have done so unilaterally. If so, he just stole $5 mill from the shareholders of the company. Mr. Stack doesn’t own those rifles even if Dick’s already bought them from the manufacturers, which they say they did. The owners of DKS (the shareholders) own those rifles.

Now, if they had a vote and the majority of shareholders said to burn the rifles, that’s one thing. If not, Mr. Stack is a thief and should be held accountable the next time the shareholders are looking for a CEO that has their best interests at heart, not the use of their capital interests to assuage guilt.

Oh, and one more thing. If Dick’s is no longer in the business of making a profit, perhaps they should buy another $5 million worth of AR’s and destroy them too. And another, and another, and another. I mean, if ”taking them off the streets” is the true goal and all... Why not??? Perhaps the shareholders don’t even care to lose all that money... 🤔

Maybe, just maybe: It's only a hunch, but perhaps the stockholders are a bunch of dimwits who have had the wool pulled over their eyes for years and have become comfortable with it.

He is the thing.  Many people have stock in the 401's that they don't even know about.  So gun guys not paying attention could be supporting Dicks, Levi's and other anti-gun companies.   Any of you use anything from Wells Fargo?   Look what they did to me because my store sells gun parts.   I blame the so called Gun Rights groups for not putting out list of Anti-gun companies so we know who all of them are.

Motif is a self stock picking app and website that allows you to group companies by any number of preferences. A ”Gun Friendly Companies” Motif would be a good option for folks wanting to invest in like minded companies. Just a thought.

Im proud to say I buy 90% of my stuff from the mom an pop gunshop in our little town. Costs a little more but it keeps him going. anything he aint got I might go online an get but one thing you can bet is Dicks aint getting squat from me. In that little deal the gunmaker got paid his profit so their employees got a check. Then the distributor got his money an their employees got a check. Seems to me the only one that took a loss is Dicks so who care if they destroyed them. Maybe they will order many more an destroy them too as long as the others get paid. Folks that want the assault style guns can get them from the mom an pop stores even if its a few bucks more. They have stopped nothing an have only shot themselves in the foot. The crooks aint gonna buy em they just gonna steal them.

My issue with Dick's is not that they stopped selling them or even that they destroyed them.  It was that the CEO came out and stated that Civilians should not have these guns and Dick's donated money to anti-gun groups.
