Just got a Kaito Voyger Pro KA600L.   The Volume was stuck on full blast and would not adjust .  Have it all boxed up and will ship back to Amazon Monday.   Have another ordered since it was a third party seller.   I only ordered the second one because aside from the volume problem right out of the box I was impressed with the reception and the features. I am comfortable there will be no issues with the second one.

These radios can be powered by an attached solar panel, hand crank, AC adapter, or batteries.   It has AM, FM, Weather and SW.  The back of the solar panel is a reading light and there is an LED flash light build into the side.  Plenty of other features also.

It can serve nicely as a camping radio or for hiking as it is very light.   It will charge your cell phone or other devices also.  So, if camping you can charge your cell phone from the solar panel or hand crank or from the power already stored in the radio.

Good thing is they make models with many of the same features as this model but cheaper.   I know there are other brands out there and being a "Back Up" guy looking for a second one as a Back up.   May simply get one of the other models of Kaito, of course based on if the one I have coming is issue free, but curious what some of you may be using.

Any input here will benefit all members because this is a must have in an emergency kit.

I have a similar radio, can't remember the brand right off. Has come in handy a few times when weather knocked the power out for a few hours. Fro some odd reason I have a Marine VHF handheld I bought at a garage sale for a quarter in one of my bags. I figure it might be handy, at least for channel 16. (CG monitored channel.)

We keep a bank of hand-held radios charged up at the ranch. When one of us goes out to inspect perimeter areas they have proven very useful, although we now employ a drone to do some of that. Backup coms are an important part of any security plan, and when radios are properly modified, it makes it very difficult for govt. snooping.

The second Voyager Pro arrived today and works fine.   Small unit that will serve as a storm radio during power outages, camping radio and a SHTF radio for those all important Emergency Broadcast Network messages telling us how screwed we are.

This one has real use features as it can charge other devices also.   I like the reading lamp as it will serve as a back up for other lighting sources.   The flashlight works great also but I have more flashlights then sense so won't need it.  Plus I have plenty of the solar yard lights and this past summer during a power outage simply brought some into the house and lit it up just fine.

If don't have an emergency radio put it on the must get list.  Know what is going on in an emergency will be crucial and you may not have the use of cell phone or other media but the radio will always be broadcasting.

Also, after reading Splithoofs post I got to thinking.   I have 6 of the small family band radios so I dug them out.   I was smart enough to take the batteries out of them years ago when I put them up so no corrosion.   I bought them for my officers to use in a residential area we were providing security for.   I think they might come in handy as there is going to more then me here in a serious SHTF scenario so communication will be important.   Also, I can give one to neighbors so I can communicate with them if needed.  Range is over a mile so they will work for water runs.  Also I am surrounded by fields that every year give up orphan crops so food gathering will be another use when someone has leave the house to do that.   Deer are all over so lets file that also under food gathering.
