Ok, so I am going through emails and have been looking at AR15 entry options, and I see a new palmetto state armory email. I open it up and am perusing it carefully and I see something I have also been looking at, for about $100 bucks cheaper than any dealer has ben able to quote me, PLUS, I know the company is also having a $50 rebate right now.

So, I am weak, I ordered the Savage AXIS .243 combo last night. I have been looking at them mostly because I have the opportunity to go hunting some areas with a lot of flat land which is not my normal custom and need something that reaches out there a bit more. And the .243 will do that nicely, I had been trying to decide between the 30/06 and the .243 and this made up my mind.

Yes, I am weak and impulsive, but $150 less for the rifle was just too tempting $249 was just too hard to pass up. The good news is that I still have over half what is needed for a decent AR cached away...

I will check that out as I want an inexpensive .243 for Coyotes.   They just changed our law for night hunting.  It was shotgun or rim fire only at night and I have an H&R .22 magnum for Coyote.   But now you can use up to .269 caliber so .243 will be perfect.   Get a full moon with snow cover and a cloudless sky and it is like day time with good optics.

You are from Michigan too aren't you? I must have missed the change for yotes, I have hunted them the past 3 years with a Savage .22 magnum. Taken 3 of them with it, but the .243 will add a bit to the hunt if we can use it now.

You aren't weak and impulsive- you saw a good deal on an Axis, and you jumped on it. [smile]

My coyote gun is a .223 Axis-it's also my deer stand gun I use a Mosin for still hunting or driving. (sometimes my Winchester 94.) A full moon winter night is the perfect time to hunt Mr. Song Dog! In WI, we have no regs on coyotes, except you have to have a small game license, and can't hunt night during the regular 9 day deer gun season.

I got a good deal on my Axis, too. Bought it from a friend who'd got it for his wife for deer & target shooting. She didn't like it. Ironically she liked one of his Mosins- a Bubba'd 16" barreled ATI-stocked red dot topped one he bought for a song, mostly to give it a good home. Fun gun to shoot, the fireballs are amazing!

Here's a target from my Axis, sight -in at 50 yards:

Here's the coyote I got with it a couple years ago, during a deer drive:

That's my oldest son behind me. He got the doe with his DPMS Sportical. My Axis is slung on my shoulder, and you can see the muzzle brake of my AMD-65 against the other guy's coat. My younger son was using that. (The AMD-65 is one in my gun pic thread.) He's dead set on getting his first deer with my AK. #Murica!

You'll find that .243 Axis should be quite accurate; Enjoy!

Got room for one more weak and impulsive club member? I just bought a sporterized Serbian Model 1924 Mauser off of a gun auction site. Here's where the weak and impulsive part comes in, the seller doesn't even know what caliber it is or what the chambering is. And I don't care. I will figure it out. If I already have brass, dies, bullets etc... I will load some up. If not then I'll just get new dies and go to town.[rofl]
