ADMIN:  Stories like this were posted on the old forum and they are important to read.   Bad things happened here.   We have little information as to who did what but people made serious mistakes.   All of us should read this and remember everyone is afraid in a situation like this.  The Homeowner is afraid the Police are Afraid and guns are involved.   Bad things can happen and did.   If you ever call the Police there are things you should do.  Stay on the phone with 911.  They will tell you when the Police are on the scene.   Stay in the Room you called 911 from.  Don't use your weapon unless you are certain of the threat against you and you can identify the threat.  Never shoot through a door.   As this was a small town so we will never hear a follow up to this story, which is sad because it should be studied so we all learn from it.   Here is the initial Story:

Authorities are investigating the death of a man shot and killed in his Pennsylvania home by police officers investigating a reported burglary.

Officers went to the home in Larimer, near Pittsburgh, just before 4 a.m. Sunday after getting a report of a burglary in progress. Police said they were trying to gain entry when a man inside the home began firing in the direction of officers on the front porch.

They returned fire, killing the 57-year-old homeowner, Christopher Thompkins.

It was unclear how many people were in the house at the time, however, police took a man into custody.

The two officers involved were placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure.

Police and the Allegheny County district attorney's office are investigating.
