I'm looking at side folders to save space in a vehicle and packing. What's everyone think about Remington's new side folder? I like the padded comb and butt pad concept.

Also sling mounting info for it.

Never used the side folder.  The old top folder was a once in a lifetime experience, however.  By that I mean once in your life was enough!

First and only time I used the top folder was in police academy launching tear gas grenades. It was an experience for sure

I have never seen this one and I don't know who the vendor is that makes it for Remington.   These stocks have their place based on the need of the user.  The nice thing on this one is the Supercell recoil pad as that is like a Marshmallow stuck to the back of you gun and your shoulder will love it.   As for the quality, I can't say.   Maybe TAPCO or Buttler Creek, not sure.    I will check all my dealer list and get back to you on this as if it is listed for Separate sale it might give me an idea who makes it.

I took a chance and found the kit with forearm for sale at Midwest Gun Works for $106.50 plus shipping and tax. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pick. What made my decision was the recoil pad, and the cheek piece is the same replaceable one from the Versa Max.

Recoil wise, it's probably the nicest folding stock I've ever used. It's as wide and long as the standard 870. The kit came with two spacers for adjusting the length of pull. I shot a small feral pig with it last weekend, in southern Ohio using a standard Remington Slugger. I don't particularly care for rifled slug barrels. So the one on it is a Remchoke barrel, with a Choate +3 extension. So anything from large to small game can be taken.

Lockup is very solid. And tucks in my Tuffy lock box just fine. This is perfect for me as a general purpose shotgun. I'll use it quite a bit this this year on steel plates, vermin, and a little "Run & gun" courses. Also it is the quickest to grab when something goes bump in the night. The stock as is, gives me the perfect cheek weld and sight alignment. So I doubt I'll need a higher cheek piece.

As is, I've got $125 in the 870, $125 in the Rem-choke slug barrel, $106.50 in it as a kit with stock and forearm, and the Choate extension I don't have a clue as I got it in trade with a bunch of AR-15 and 1911 parts.

Also, before someone ask, yes it has the full flexi-tab parts already in it when I bought it. The reason the host 870 only cost me $125, was I bought it for $200 with a rifled slug barrel, I sold it to a friend for $75 just to dump it.

Before I forget, I suspect TAPCO made some of it if not all. The pistol grip has TAPCO on it, were as all the other parts are clearly marked Remington.

I agree it was Tapco but with that being history I wonder if they will still be available.   I am placing an order for parts on Monday and will get the 12 and 20ga models of this stock if they are available and put them on the store.  It's a risk as I have so many stocks in stock ( hey a pun ) but they don't rust or rot so if it takes years to sell them so what.  These stock have their place and are the answer for the guys that need that feature.

I recently put these on two 20ga guns. One is mine and the other to a lady friend. The SAW style grip interfered with the safety on both of them. I had to get out the Dremel and sanding drum to give the safety clearance. As I tightened them up, both kept encroaching on the safety.

A little more on the SAW grip, the SAW grip appears to be the standard AK grip they sell. It is sitting on a short rectangular post like a standard AK. So I took some measurements and searched the house for some stock parts I still have. The lone grip I had came off a WASR and was replaced with a Hogue. So if I look at this backwards to see if it fit and did, so now I think I'll order the 74000 model from Hogue and see if it will work on the Remington stock.

It's been over two weeks for my Planet Optics order. Still waiting on it to arrive. They are pretty slow for something that was in stock.

Please don't take my comments the wrong way but with the current environment, due to the Wuhan Covid Coronavirus, many business operations are either shut down completely or working with severely limited staff on-site. Most deliveries have been delayed if they have staff to pack and ship at all. Just be glad you haven't tested positive or already have the virus - what you are experiencing is definitely a 1st world problem of not getting what you want when you want it. Stay safe and have patience - All good things come to he who waits!!!

I am a Remington Master Gun Shop and have had these on order since January.   It is just how it is with Remington these days.   However, if the vendor claimed they had it in stock they should have.

Things are just taking a lot more time to get done.  Shortages of people, huge increases in package numbers, all sorts of stuff.  Heck, my "overnight delivery" through UPS this week took 4 days!

Optics Planet has been a pain in my backside for the last two years. The plus side, the Hogue 74000 grip fits and needs a little trimming to fold the stock open and close. Best part it doesn't encroach on the safety leaving more room for the oversize ones. I put it on my 20ga as its smaller fore and aft than the SAW grip. I'm currently working with a couple of ladies on shooting shotguns, and it works good for them.

I personally like it and will order one for my 12ga.
