ADMIN:  Found this on another forum and thought Saddler might comment on it for us as to how readily available they are and the cost compared to here in the US where there is an added cost of a $200 tax stamp.   His info could give us an idea about if the retail here prices will go down if the NFA requirements are lifted by the Hear Protection Act, if it passes.

Yes, I know for the most part their gun laws suck. However, they can buy silenced shotguns off the shelf without any special paperwork(Just normal UK Permits for any firearm). Wouldn't that be awesome!

A vaguery of UK gun laws: I can buy shotgun moderators through the mail without any permit or paperwork. They require no certification.
Same as airgun moderators (even in a few cases where a rimfire moderator and airgun are EXACTLY the same make/model/thread size, caliber, etc)
Integral moderators on rifles are likewise uncontrolled as they aren't an individual part. Removable rifle moderators are restricted in so far as needing purchase permission, but this is normally a technicality within the normal scheme of the 5-year Firearm Certificate.

It's also easy to make either of the above yourselves...with permission if so needed.

The removable 410 single barrel moderators are under $100 .
Rimfire models around $35
Rifle from $150
Second hand prices? Depends on age & model but I've heard of them being thrown in as part of the sale 2nd hand guns....

Thanks for the info Sadler.  Are the prices you gave are in Pounds?   Even with that your prices are about 1/5th ours.   we have legislation pending to remove Suppressors from the National Firearms Act and thus we can own them without paying a $200 fee to the Federal government per each one, filling out tons of forms for each one and waiting for over 6 months to get approval to purchase one.   We all hope this law passes.

In Canada the shortest legal length for a shotgun is 14" and I have had dozens of Canadians buy my barrels and have me send them to Dealers in the states with export licenses.

A countries history defines it's gun laws and I find this to be a fascinating subject.   Since this forum can come up in any country I would like to hear from others around the globe about their gun laws.   I am sure the US has the most liberal of the larger countries but I think hearing about others would be eye opening to members.

Translated the prices into dollars using rough exchange rates....so probably even better than you thought.

Other differences here are rifle barrels have a minimum length of 12": shotgun barrels 24"
Overall length of a rifle min. 24"/shotgun no length limit unless semi/pump, in which case 40" min.

Shotgun slugs VERY restricted

I'd rather have the laws we have and continue to work on reducing/repealing them. Supposedly, the ATF is working on streamlining the process for silencer approval (And yes it is silencer, not supressor, Hiram Maxim invented them and named them so) there are announcements from silencer companies concerning this. I hope the HPA passes. I will have to thread my Axis then.
