I currently have a 870 Marine Magnum. The new range I recently just joined has a informal clay trap range that my previous range did not have. I wanted to try it out and see if I like it before going out and spending money on another shotgun. So I thought of swapping out the barrel of my marine magnum to something longer and with chokes. I cam across a 26 inch barrel that accepts 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2 shells. I’m assuming this is a super magnum barrel. Will this barrel work on my shotgun I have now? I’m not looking to shoot super magnum shells. I’ve read all sorts of things saying they are not compatible and that they are. Some say all receivers are the same and some say otherwise. Does anyone here know for sure? I don’t care that the finish won’t match. The price is right for the barrel, 50 bucks. I just need something to get by for now.

You can only shoot the max shell length that your barrel and receiver are designed for. You should only be using 2 3/4" shells for trap so you will be fine.

As Number2 said, yes you will be able to shoot 2 3/4" and 3" shells through that barrel while on that gun, but not 3 1/2". Nice buy!
