I am "rediscovering" Westerns and am far from an expert on this topic.  However, I really enjoyed watching "The Rifleman" as a boy and I have recently watched every episode from start to finish.  I really liked Chuck Connors as the Rifleman.  So, I'd go with him.

I also recently spent some time with my father and his girlfriend while my Dad recovered from some surgery.  She is a huge fan of westerns and we watched several episodes of a show I had never heard of "Wells Fargo Detective" I think it was.  I thought it was pretty good, however, I do not recall the name of the star of that series.

Frosty, that was most likely "Tales of Wells Fargo".   The Western Channel runs to episodes each day Monday through Friday.   The main actor , Dale Roberson was also a host on "Death Valley Days" right after Ronald Reagan left the Show.  The show plays loose with history as all Hollywood does as the show features "Jim Hardy" going up against Jessie James, John Wesley Hardin and all the well know outlaws regardless of the actual time period or area of the west these men were in.   Still a fun watch as Dale Roberson is a folksy Cowboy type turn Investigator.

If you like the Rifle Man keep your eyes open for any of the "Branded" TV series with Chuck Conners.   Also, you can find "The Rifle Man" on you tube but no full episodes of Branded so it must still have a copy write on it.   INSP Cannel has run some of the Branded shows from time to time.

Yes, Tales of Wells Fargo, that was it.  The show is pretty good.  I watched about ten episodes while I was visiting my Dad and I enjoyed the show.  I'll look for Branded, I do like Chuck Connors.   I recently watched a modern western movie, "The Magnificent Seven" and surprisingly, I liked it.  But, I've always been a sucker for the gatling gun.  Bring in the heavy fire power and I'm all in.  lol.

I was just watching "Wanted Dead or Alive" and there was seen where a guy is sneaking up to a farm house and he brought some meat along incase they had a dog.  There is a Dog and he throws him the meat.   I swear it was Ol' Yeller.  The Movie was made in 1957 and this episode of Wanted Dead or Alive was made in 1959.   I know that was Yeller and now I want to see that movie again.  I also want to see the squal "Savage Sam".   Sam was one of Yeller's pups.  Great Western also.

This was a fun poll and I hope to do it again if forum use picks up.   I am a fan of most of the old westerns but don't like the Spaghetti Westerns.  The directors play around with the Camera shots to much and the sound track are irritating.   The exception is any with Eli Wallach in them because he is my second cousin.  Funny that a Polish Jew from Brooklyn only plays Mexican Bandits in movies.  I guess once you get type cast you are stuck with it, but he did some none westerns but mostly bit parts.

If some of you know this fine but incase anyone does not.   If you have a smart TV and wi-fi you can pull you tube up and there are hundreds of old western movies and many of the old series like " The Rifleman" and others that are not on TV.   It is going to be a cold winter and with no snow to ride I will indoors a lot so will catch up on the old Westerns.

So if anyone finds a Gem on you tube please e-mail the name they are calling it as they change the names to avoid copy rights and I will check it out this winter.

I received a Matching pair of Army Colts for a friend.   The ATF Examiner doing an audit on my books said I entered the serial numbers incorrectly.   She had never seen a Matched pair so I explained it to her.  She still questioned the entry so I told her to contact the FFL that sent them to me and she will see I am correct, or call her Office and ask someone.  She did not like the response.

I might be older than the rest of you guys.  I personally go back in cowboy history to ROY ROGERS "King of The Cowboys," with his beautiful wife Dale, and of course his trained dog, "Bullet" and his horse "TRIGGER!"  Also, GENE AUTRY with his famous horse "CHAMPION."  There, I feel better now that I made my contribution! I have gone back probably to the Fabulous '50's!  I can remember when every Saturday morning when Roy came fast riding into the hoot and shooting West to fight the bad guys and win for one for good, family, morals and Country. Every one of the 30 minutes serial programs was an exciting adventure along with Pat
Brady and Nellybelle his mistrusted Jeep.

Nope, we are a bunch of old farts here.   I grew up on those also.  As a boy I had a Mares Leg a cowboy hat and I was Josh Randal.  One thing that is missing from todays shows is "Teaching".  We learned from the old shows.  Things like fair play, honesty, keeping your word and loyalty.   All the things this country is lacking today.  Guess we are not just old, we may be dinosaurs as well.

I liked all the old Westerns. But I’ll never forget this scene in The Rifleman when a shot gunner, in fact β€œThe Shotgun Man” one upped ole Lucas McCay on a fence. Have a look:

Fast forward to 15:30 for the scene in question... πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
