Shiny guns can be seen when you don't want to be.

Yeah, I figured that was what you were going to say. Frankly, it is what most people say, or, "it will give away your position."

But as a cop of 39 years, I never saw it be a problem for anyone, goodguy or badguy. Plus, I also seldom lay in the bushs waiting to snipe a bad guy unannounced, but I guess other States allow that...

I carried a Marine 870 and a stainless steel FAL (and a stainless Ruger AC-557K before that) for much of my career, and always carried a nickle, chrome, or Stainless pistol, until I went Glock. But, I never heard of any guys with chrome pistols complain that they had been seen because of their pistols.

I mean each to his own, I am just saying I never saw it be a real problem. If it did, you are only a spray paint can away from true ninjafication. Lol.

Not trying to step on toes, just another take on the issue.

No one here would lay in the bushes and shoot anyone unannounced as we are all grown ups here.  All our issue weapons were blued in the early years and parkerize later on and the only Marine shotgun I ever saw was on Florida Marine Patrol boats and a couple of DNR's.  Parkerized guns work just as well at the Marine if kept oiled.

Well I was assigned to a Marine Task Force, and since we furnished our own longarms, that was the perfect reason to buy the Marine 870 and the Stainless DSA FAL, and, to write them off on my taxes. They did look great in a dual front rack between the seats in my cruiser!

But, durability was not my point. My point is that I personally have never seen anyone for which a shiny weapon was a problem for the user. I heard it many times at the beginning of my career, as a rookie with a big nickle S&W Model 27. It just never happened.

YMMV! Thanks for your politeness.

Unless you were targeted by a sniper if someone seen the reflection of an 870 OR an N-frame A LOT will not want that confrontation. Maybe not all but A LOT would choose to go the other way.

My best friend god rest his soul. Was a Navy Chief Petty Officer . He used to always tell me the only ones you see with a nickel or chrome gun was a pimp or a sailor . of course he also said is the same thing about pearl grips too. Too darn shiney. Gives your position away.

So,  I have never laid a Playmate of the month but I may.  Well at 65 the odds are getting longer......and longer and longer and longer.  OK so I will never lay a Playmate of the month but some where some lucky guy is going to tonight.

Coming from a HRT background with all black uniforms and gear I prefer black guns.  The only thing I have with a camo pattern is my face from the age spots.

The same thing applies to hunting guns having nickel barrels but I have a local friend fills two tags every year with Model 700 with a stainless action and barrel.  He would be on your side and laugh at the rest of us.

If nickel and ivory were good enough for Patton I’m ok with them.
