In February I was steelhead fishing on the south fork of the Umpqua River in Central Oregon from a guided driftboat. I caught and landed after a ferocious battle the largest steelhead I've ever seen. She was shiny bright fresh in from the ocean, exactly 38 inches long and 20 inches girth, the guide said she was an honest 20 pounds.

In OR you can only keep hatchery raised steelhead (adipose fin removed) so she was released unharmed to lay several thousand eggs and keep the species flourishing.

The picture posting thing amajig is not working but they are working on it.

Glad you sent her back into nature to bring more steelhead into the world.   Steelhead fishing is getting very poor here in Michigan but I hope to have some great stories come fall.  If not, I will lie and make some up as is my right as a fisherman.

This Lake Michigan steelhead  was 31" , 14# , caught out on the scumline halfway between Keewaunee and Ludington:

Obviously, a long time ago; right after I got out of the Army, in 89.
